When the United States Mint resumed gold coining in the 1980s after more than 50 years, the American Gold Eagle not only brought back gold coining in the United States, but also launched a gold bullion investment series from the US Mint. The American Gold Eagles were introduced in 1986 with 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold coins.
